Head Tennis Professional John Mercer, USPTA Certified, has been with the Pittsburgh Field Club for 26 years. His wife Laurie is an assistant tennis pro here as well.
John did his undergraduate work at Penn State University, and he holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas. To this day, he maintains his ties to the college scene by serving as Marshall University’s head tennis coach.
According to John, the best part about being at the Field Club is “teaching a life-long sport and working with a great membership.” He’s also proud that he’s had a hand in “helping to build the PFC tennis program into the best in Pittsburgh,” not to mention “building the Marshall University Tennis program into a top-50 Division 1 team.”
As the father of Cassie, J.J. and A.J. (12, 8 and 3, respectively) the 46-year-old stays youthful and energetic, thanks to “their enthusiasm about life.” His work at the club helps, too.
